Trust Planning Package
A more structured estate-planning package for individuals and families who want greater control, flexibility, and long-term clarity in how their property is managed.
A More Flexible Approach to Estate Planning
Some individuals and families need more than a will-based estate plan. They may want greater control over how property is managed, clearer instructions for future decision-makers, or a more coordinated structure for handling assets during life and after death.
The Trust Planning Package brings together a Revocable Living Trust and supporting estate-planning documents designed to work as one coordinated plan.
The package includes:
- Revocable Living Trust
- Pour-Over Will
- Durable Power of Attorney
- Health Care Power of Attorney
- Healthcare Directive
Together, these documents provide a structured foundation for managing property, addressing incapacity, and carrying out your wishes over time.
What the Trust Planning Package Includes
Revocable Living Trust
A Revocable Living Trust provides a structure for holding and managing property during your lifetime and directing how trust property should be handled after your death. Because the trust is revocable, it can generally be amended as your circumstances and goals change.
Pour-Over Will
A Pour-Over Will works alongside the trust by directing certain property remaining in your individual name into the trust after your death. It also addresses matters that still require a will-based document.
Healthcare Directive
A Healthcare Directive records your wishes concerning medical treatment and end-of-life care, helping your family and healthcare providers understand the decisions you would want made.
Health Care Power of Attorney
A Health Care Power of Attorney names someone you trust to make healthcare decisions for you if you are unable to make or communicate those decisions yourself.
Durable Power of Attorney
A Durable Power of Attorney allows you to choose someone you trust to handle financial and legal matters on your behalf if you need assistance or are unable to manage them yourself.
Is the Trust Planning Package Right for You?
The Trust Planning Package may be appropriate for individuals or families who want more control and flexibility than a traditional will-based plan may provide.
It may be a good starting point if you:
- Want a structured plan for managing property during life and after death
- Want greater control over how and when property is distributed
- Own multiple or significant assets
- Want to plan for the management of property during incapacity
- Have a blended family or more involved family circumstances
- Want trust-based planning tailored to specific goals
- Value flexibility as family or financial circumstances change
A simpler planning option may be appropriate if your needs are relatively straightforward and you do not currently require trust-based planning.
Clients seeking core estate-planning documents may want to review the Essential Will Package. Parents and families focused on guardianship and planning for children may benefit from reviewing the Family Protection Package.
Rivertown Law will review your property, family circumstances, and planning goals to help determine whether a trust-based plan is appropriate for your needs.
